Looking for training and development materials informed by a large volume of actual online clinical practice? Focusing primarily on the online therapeutic process, papers in this section draw on several years of practical online experience.
Are you considering online supervision? Here are some factors that may be worth thinking about before you decide to commit to working this way.
In stark contrast to the stereotypical Western therapist forever distracting the client from their stories about the world in order to ask “but how do you feel?”, the Other Centred therapist listens carefully to the stories themselves. Indeed, this book presents examples of client work in which the therapist asks the opposite question about a partner whose behaviour the client is complaining about: “but what was that like for him?”.
Brazier reminds us that counselling often goes beyond offering a non-judgemental space in which the client can listen to and experience themselves, to actively encourage a kind of self-preoccupation which can actually make one more isolated and miserable.
An important part of improving the service offered to clients is listening to what they have to say. The widely used client feedback form which we’ve been providing since 2003 is now available for download again after a brief hiatus.
Whether you’ve been at it for years, or you’re just getting started as an online practitioner, I hope you’ll find something useful in our section for online supervision and online therapy training and development.
