I am not a psychologist so I understand my context in replying but in my experience and observation of some, yes they can. Perhaps not across the board but with some yes. I like the newer research focus on Post Traumatic Growth (inventory) and in my experience some body work like Meridian tapping or Emotional freedom technique can work wonders. In my mind for those that can, to acknowledge what has occurred and reframe, or make meaning of the event can allow one to “focus forward” vs staying stuck in the past, relive the past and thus maintain (or continue to strengthen) that neurochemistry and emotional context of that past. I’d like to see more research with the focus on what one wants vs what one had/has. I also am cognizant that it is not a one-size-fits-all.
