    That day should come when people realize importance of character in sport persons. I wonder when that day will come and after how much loss?

  2. This is also a huge problem in college sports. Winning-at-all-costs is justified, because a winning sports team is supposed to enhance the reputation and standing of the school, and students will want to select that university to attend. Meanwhile, the thugs on the team prey on others, and are protected, to a great extent, by the university.

    My husband is a university professor, and we live in a college town. I would say that this phenomenon really got a toe-hold in the eighties, and seems to get worse each year. Little-to-no consideration seems to be given to the character of the athletic scholarship recipient. It would be lovely to think that this may someday change, but the powers-that-be never seem to learn.
