  1. I have read many, many articles on these types of people, what they do, how they do it and why, etc. But I have NEVER read an article on “HOW” to deal with this type of person. All the articles point to what, when, how, why and where, but NEVER on “how” a person should or could deal with this and how to STOP it………….keyword here is, how to deal with it or stop it without leaving. “how” do you combat this in love and kindness? Because that’s who I am. “how” do you get the upper hand? Or, don’t you? What is a good response to all of this? “how” does one respond, when they KNOW this is being done to them? HOW????? Please let me know so that it doesn’t continue.

    1. Great question. And it’s why I wrote the book “In Sheep’s Clothing,” with its 12 tools of personal empowerment dealing with these types and their behaviors and why I wrote my other books, especially “Character Disturbance” and most especially “How Did We End Up Here?”. And you can also find a brief discussion on the tools of empowerment in a series of posts right here on the blog.

  2. Was raised by a narcissistic psychopathic mother. Stalker, liar to the extreme, major manipulator. Truly destructive woman. Still alive at advanced age. Exposing her would be positive, Dr. Simon. I like that. But….she controls her huge family of flying monkeys and they support her, not me. Got away from them years ago……alive!!!……unlike another sister who committed suicide. Keep telling the truth. Only thing I disagree with, though, is your percentage figure about psychopaths in the general population. I believe it is much higher than that — say, 4%. Suggest people read Dr. Scott Peck’s book, “People of the Lie”. Will help them cope. Also, spread sunshine and goodness to anyone around you to overcome evil with good. No, I am not kidding! You’ll hear the devil cringe and then flee. Watch good things happen to you. God bless!

  3. If it helps women to know, many women have been gaslighted through covert trauma based mind control methods. You are not the only one, it was never your fault, and you cannot remain in the same house as an ego abuser. Remember, we are survivors and we will not be the ones that stand by silently, but will step in on behalf of other woman who are tormented like this.

  4. They will drive you crazy with gas lighting and lies. Best thing to do is not engage. They are like vampires sucking the life out of you. They will never change. So it is best to get rid. Mel xx

  5. I am currently going through some terrible gaslighting by a women I tried to help. From the outside she looked very trustworthy. Now I have learned that until you know a person you don’t know a person. What they do, who they are married to etc. does not mean that they are not a person capable of terrible gaslighting etc. Now having to try and endure all the horrible things she has done to me. Can’t do much about all the damage can only stay as far away as possible.

  6. If it looks like bulls**t, smells like bulls**t, and most importantly sounds like bulls**t… you’re being taken for a ride. Also known as “gaslighting”. Don’t fall for it, don’t even dispute it, walk away, don’t give that person what they want, an opportunity to confuse you and make you sound and behave unstable. Just walk away, find another room, shut the door and deep breathe and count to 100, 1,000 … whatever works best for you. It’s a game. Don’t participate.

  7. I just found out I have been a victim of gaslighting by my daughter. She’s an only daughter who made me change my furniture, and kitchen, rearranged everything and hid things from me telling me I was confused as to where I put things.I just found them hidden in her underwear drawers. When she spoke I couldn’t hear and asked her to repeat it and she would deliberately speak in an even lower voice and tell me I was probably losing my hearing. I’m in my 50s and she thinks that must be the age of dementia because she’s been trying to make me believe things that aren’t true about myself.
