I respectfully disagree with the opening statement of “The power differential is built in and the potential for abuse is great.” Power relationships in psychotherapy are not that simple, they are complex and dynamic. As my article Power in Psychotherapy at http://www.zurinstitute.com/power_in_therapy.html states there are many types of power and at times clients are more powerful than their therapists. Power is not a unidimensional and static, it is dynamic and ever changing.
