Other Web Resources in Counselling & Psychotherapy, Part 4
This mixed list includes just a few of the myriad counselling and psychotherapy resources available online which may be useful to clients, practitioners or researchers.

- Royal Agricultural Benevolent Insitution - Supporting farming families in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Rural Stress Information Network - Umbrella charity working with local English and Welsh support organizations.
- Wales Rural Stress Helpline - Provides free telephone support.

- Women Organizing Women - Help for women who were sexually assaulted while serving in the military. (Also see the separate section on Abuse, Rape and Incest.)

- Vetlife - This is a great first stop for information and mental health resources for veterinary surgeons.
- Helpline numbers:
- Veterinary Helpline - UK number (+44) (0)7659 811118.
- Vets Helping Vets - Specifically addresses addictions; UK number (+44) (0)1926 315119.
Support Groups
In addition to the Discussion & Support forum here at CounsellingResource.com, a few of the literally thousands of groups which support lively communities include the following. This list includes only sites which offer many different support groups for different areas of interest.
- BrainTalk Communities - Billed as neurology support groups, this extensive collection also covers a wide range of general psychological and mental health areas of concern.
- Intelihealth Communities - If you don't mind lots of commercial advertising and a server which in my experience is quite slow, this site provides a good collection of boards.
- Recovery, Inc. - This nonprofit self-help organization was founded in 1937 by the late Dr. Abraham A. Low, a Chicago psychiatrist whose ideas were later linked to cognitive behavioural approaches.
Therapeutic Approaches & Related
Please see the section on Types of Counselling for more information about specific therapeutic approaches.
Focusing
- Focusing Institute - Very rich source of information on focusing.
- Focusing Resources - Excellent site from a leading student of Gendlin's.
- Japan Focusing Association - Non-Japanese don't worry: it's in English.
Person-Centred
- Allan Turner's Person Centred Web Site - Individual practitioner's site with other links, a few papers and an interesting Q&A for students.
- Association for the Development of the Person Centered Approach - International, interdisciplinary network promoting person-centred thought.
- Center for the Studies of the Person - Based in La Jolla, Carl Rogers's former haunt.
- Network of the European Associations for Person-Centred and and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling - Even more remarkably long-winded European portion of the World Association...
- Person-Centered Expressive Therapy Institute - Training institute founded by Carl Rogers's daughter, Natalie Rogers.
- Peter F. Schmid Person-Centred Website - Individual site of a leading person-centred figure in Austria; wild (and multi-lingual) page design but useful content.
- World Association for Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counseling - Organization publishes a journal and runs an international conference.
Philosophical Counselling
- The Philosophical Counseling Website - Shlomit Schuster's pages on philosophical counselling.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
- How To Be Happy - Although this page is a subsection of a rather politically-charged site, the explanation of rational emotive behaviour therapy is clear and concise.
Therapist Directories
Directories of therapists abound, with wildly varying quality and coverage. This section provides just a few links to directories.
- British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - Run by one of the main professional counselling organizations in the UK, this directory also acts as a marketing tool to promote the BACP's accreditation scheme. (See volumes such as Hubble, Duncan and Miller 1999 or Bergin and Garfield 1994 for research evidence on counselling effectiveness that fails to support any link between accreditation and actual therapeutic effectiveness.) Therapists pay a fee to list their own descriptions of their services.
- Counselling Directory - As of September 2005, this UK newcomer looks pretty sparse in terms of coverage, but it's nicely put together. Caveat emptor: the site also includes a large number of short articles about medical and mental health issues that are provided without attribution and without any kind of evidence or support by way of citations or bibliographic references. (The 'About Us' section describes the proprietors as new graduates in business management and graphic design; are the articles about abortion, Tourette's Syndrome, etc. written by the same team?)
- Counselling in France - This uniquely useful directory aims to connect English speakers living in France with nearby therapists offering counselling in English. The service is free both to therapists and to clients.
- Marriage & Family Counselor Directory - When we visited in July 2005, this site was just getting started and offered limited coverage of the US, but it looks like it could grow to become a valuable comprehensive directory.
- Psychology Today - Now brought to you directly by CounsellingResource.com, this directory carries the advantage that it is run independently of any accrediting body or counselling service; it does, however, cover only the United States. Therapists pay a fee to be listed, and Psychology Today verifies their professional qualifications and licensure.
Therapists With Online Practices
Much like therapist directories, online therapy practices abound -- with wildly variable cost and quality. This small section, which is no longer being updated, includes a selection of online therapist sites which I have visited. (Note that this site also offers online therapy services.)
Training (Specifically Internet-Supported)
- SEPTIMUS - This European-funded project provides a short internet-supported training course in psychotherapy across Europe.
