As a former senior manager and (still) an occasional business consultant, I've worked with my share of 'big fish', the multi-billion dollar businesses or government agencies that typically call on consultants as the most cost effective way of getting tough jobs done quickly. They turn to consultants because despite all their considerable resources, sometimes these big fish need new ideas and fresh perspectives, and a willingness to do things a little differently than they might have been done before. They know that a comparatively small effort, targeted at the right pressure point or at the right end of a lever within their business, can do more for their organization than a huge effort applied indiscriminately.

Business consultants aren't just for the 'big fish'.
