Minor complaints aside, ‘Technology in Counselling and Psychotherapy’ offers a solid contribution to the literature on how technology in three specific areas has been used in counselling and psychotherapy.
This book provides an excellent overview of the primary theoretical approaches to counselling and psychotherapy as practised in the United Kingdom. Covering history, theory, primary client set and strengths and weaknesses for each of thirteen different approaches, the book makes an excellent starting point for exploring different schools of thought in more detail.
The Relational-Cultural approach makes a robust challenge to the assumptions of much therapeutic, psychological and philosophical theory, by understanding human growth not as a process of separation and individualisation but as a process of making connections.
From the neuroscience of music and psychoneuroendocrinology to music therapy and dance therapy, this multidisciplinary volume does a great job of bringing together far-flung strands of research at the individual, group and community levels and exploring just how much we are beginning to learn about the impact of music on our lives.
Seemingly aimed both at students and at internet-illiterates, this book provides fairly comprehensive coverage of the history and development of online counseling. As a practical guide or handbook, however, it lacks depth.
