How many times have we heard the tired advice “take care of yourself”? Great…but how are we supposed to do that when work seems to consume all our time? Here’s how I developed my own “me time” bit by bit over the years.
In the previous post, I had a bit of a vent against both “positive thinking” and “negative thinking”. Is the answer not to think at all? Not according to the most helpful way of living with the power of thinking that I have ever come across.
We might find that when we have time and space, or when we meditate, or go for walks, or write down what we are feeling, or whatever it is that we do, we end up just listening to our thoughts, which behave like the loudest guests at the party. We might never hear from that quiet girl in the corner who looks really interesting…
I remember first learning meditation practice, as a somewhat distracted and giggly student. The leader of the session said that “the great thing about your breathing is that it’s always with you, you even take it with you on the bus!” I was sorely challenged in my attempt to keep a straight face. It was funny but it was true, it was funny because it was true.
