Critically Acclaimed Soul Searching Film to be Released on DVD

After several years languishing in the limbo of Channel 4 corporate archives, the critically acclaimed Testing God and Soul Searching films will at last be available on DVD through the aptly-named becauseyouthink.tv, backed by the films’ producer David Malone. Originally released in 2001 and 2003, respectively, these Channel 4 productions were widely praised by critics and viewers alike. Requests for information about obtaining the films have continued to pour into the inboxes of myself and other contributors, but in an era dominated by reality TV and sexy eye candy, Channel 4 had no plans to make these examples of ‘thinking TV’ available on DVD. Now that they’re back in the hands of the film’s producer, the waiting audience will finally be able to get their hands on them.

Just as Testing God pitted belief in God against what modern science has to say, so Soul Searching tests belief in the Soul. It asks, is the idea of the Soul anything more than a figment of the religious imagination? Is there some real scientific basis for the feeling that many even non religious people have, that in addition to their body and their brain there is something else, some inner essence which is the real core of who and what we are? It is that feeling which Soul Searching examines.

By the way, although I did appear in the second part of Soul Searching, discussing the self and its relationship with the inner sources of creativity and insight, I have no actual involvement in the becauseyouthink.tv venture, nor any financial involvement in the films: I’m mentioning the new DVDs here just because I think they were some great films, and many people have asked me how they could get hold of them.
