I wonder how the idea of unity works in other situations, ones in which there might be a singular goal. I’m thinking, for example, of a cohort of students trying to get through school. They may be a small class, and spend a LOT of time together, each with the single goal of earning his/her degree. Why is that some classes pull together (strength in unity) while others never get beyond the fighting and competitiveness of the first year? Having taught graduate students for many years now, I do get fascinated by the differences in cohorts from year to year. For the record, I think the ones with unity seem to have a more successful experience!
First, I loved The Avengers … And Joss Whedon. Second, I wanted to add that, as in the movie where they each kept their individual strengths but worked together to succeed, our country should take advantage of our diversified talents to create something wonderful. Somehow we’ve forgotten how to do that. It’s sad, destructive and, ultimately, could be our downfall.
