This is a very beautiful post. It took me back to the small town where I grew up. There is this old theater were I used to run around with my friends as a little girl while adults entertained themselves with theatrical pieces; many of them local pieces ( La carreta, La llamarada, Los soles truncos) to my favorites; like La Pasion Segun Antigona Perez and La semana de siete dias. To me all the expressions of art are like a mirror to the soul and there is so much therapeutic value in them when well used.

Beautiful post :) When I was young, I used to study drama, and in order to get into the "mood" and skin of the different characters I used to listen to different types of music.

I had to play the role of a bitter teacher once, and choose to listen one of the songs of the album The Wall, by Pink Floyd (Another brick in the wall...)

Then I had to play one of the submissive daughters and sisters in Federico Garcia Lorca's play "The House of Bernarda Alba", and I chose a specific piece of classical music I like but it's kind of "depressing" though... Lacrimosa (from Mozart's Requiem)

To me, music has like a magic effect to set the tone of my mood. I use it to soothe me or cheer me up, and can be a good anti-stress therapy too, as well as dancing and singing.

Hi, Dr. Simon -

Along those same lines, I recommend the book "Musicophilia" by Oliver Sacks . . he examines the effect of music on the human brain . . he gets into a bit of psychology and the cross-over between various senses.

Hi George,
Love this post! Music is Powerful!
When I was young I used to sit with a friend and write songs too.
There is so much written on the power of music to transform and even grow the brain neurons and healing properties. One of my favorite authors is Don Campbell, Mozart Effect. Music helps in so many ways it is almost immeasurable in many ways. My area of focus was children and learning and new scientific studies on music and academics. Then of course too the amazing healing qualities in health and certain hard to treat cases. I loved learning that they actually can now map the healing neurons which they had once believed impossible in even the aged person. Dance has always been a deep love of mine. It is an amazing and awesome field.
