Hi Mariana,

Our family contains some fairly big disagreements too. I agree wholeheartedly with you that differences abound and that it is good to bear this in mind.

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Evan,

Within my family (of origin,) all of us have different views. Different viewpoints regarding religion, politics, social interaction, and to some extent, different values as well.

We don't exactly agree with each other's standpoint, but we have come to accept the fact that just because we think differently, it does not mean someone's views are better or worse than others. They are just different. So, we have agreed to disagree, and above all, respect the other person's different viewpoint.

With this in mind, when I first developed a website to provide information to help people, I was aware that I was going to come across people whose viewpoints would be different than mine. Nonetheless, I decided to make available -through a link on my site- some information on a book and film many people "love" and I strongly dislike.

I was highly critized for doing this by a small "intellectual" group, but the truth be told, we do not control what others choose to believe in or think, and they deserve respect. And since, my site is just a reference source to diverse pieces of information on a given topic, I thought it important to respect other people's views regardless of whether I personally agree with them or not.

In our world, differences abound. Cultural differences involve a great deal of differences in many other aspects as well. And I believe it's important to bear this in mind for the most part of our life.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to this blog.

Your comment has got me thinking that I'm the same as you. It's about listening and being listened to. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Evan -- thanks for this post. What this brought up for me was that over time my perspective has changed from "I want to be with people who have things in common with me" to "I want to be with people who will listen to me and allow me to listen to them." No matter how different someone's point of view may be from mine, if they will listen to me and acknowledge that they've heard me, I tend to find relating with them nourishing.
