Sarah,
:) I agree...I smile every time I think of it. For some reason it tickles my funny bone and lifts my spirits. I did phone Joan about the incident after I got home. I wanted her to know that someone noticed and cared. The workshop was on how we can all be more caring to one another, which is even more funny. :)

Jean - I have to say that, sad as that experience is, the minister's response had me chortling out loud :-)

No need for me to say more!

That reminds me of a workshop I was in years ago. A local minister who was a true believer in active listening started teaching that section. When he started one woman said she hated it when people used active listening on her. I knew where she was coming from and was surprised when the minister ignored the statement instead of dealing with it. So I said, "Joan said she hates it when people use active listening on her." He became angry and said, "Well I think Joan is too sensitive, and I think you are too!" End of discussion, back to teaching people listening skills. A few minutes later she slipped out of the group and went home. No one noticed. Every time I hear about active listening I think of that experience.
