Hello Sarah :)I think you’re Polish but I’ll post it in English, just in case;)I found your web when I was looking for something about possibilities of working as a counsellor in Poland.. I am on counselling course-personal centre apr.and I am wondering if being counsellor in Poland has any sense…It seems like if someone is a psychologist, psychotherapist in Poland -then can include therapeutic counselling naturally into practise, but if not….Do you think Sarah that there are any jobs in Poland for counsellors?if not now, ever..?If yes-where..? I am really confused and loose sense of doing it sometimes. I have degree in special education anyway but counselling is really this what I would like to do. If you’re able to answer, maybe give me some ideas…I will be very greatful!!Best regards -Agata

    Hi Agata,

I am not Polish, I am English, but I speak and work in Polish.

I know what you mean about losing heart, counselling in Poland does seem senseless sometimes! That is the reason, I think, why we should persevere!!

Is the course you are doing in Poland?

As I don’t think there is even a word for counselling as opposed to psychotherapy in Poland you can at this moment in time simply call yourself a psychotherapist – I expect you have seen my Polish site, sarah.luczaj.com – you can see how I present myself there in private practice. If you are in a larger city I am sure you could get a reasonable amount of clients, where I live, in a rural area I am not overloaded with clients but I do have a steady intake!

I think the regulations are shortly to change and you will need to be a psychologist before you can train as a therapist, but there is a loophole for people who have foreign qualifications. Now may be the moment to begin.

I started off counselling as a volunteer in a ‘fundacja” or charity/association – I am sure there are plenty of these who would be open to offering counselling.

    Good luck!

Hi:)I am doing the course in UK. As far as I know to be a psychotherapist in Poland , first of all you have to be a psychologist and then you spend next years on trainings, supervisions, etc.Similar like in UK, maybe a little bit longer. You right that qualifications from other coutries are treated many times without any regulations and lots of depends of employers However counselling that something quite specific and I really dont know…I agree charietes may need counsellors but this is many times unpaid job Good for getting experience Private practise-that’s sensible. Are you still under BAPC regulatuions, getting some trainings every year, counselling..or working in Poland you are under polish regulations or without them…?Your website-very interesting:)Can I write in polish?Sorry for my mistakes in English;)

you don’t have to be a psychologist to be a psychotherapist – not yet!

A UK qualification is respected as such… yes I am a member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical code. I am working under Polish law but choose to keep my professional association in the UK. I also counsel online, in English (www.mytherapist.com) so there are lots of possibilities! Sure you can write in Polish…
