    Hi Jamie.
We found taking the patch off easier with a makeup remover pad and baby oil. We just keep easing the edges up with the saturated pad until the whole thing (and all the glue) is removed. Good luck!

    Hi Jamie,
Today is the start of my 9 yr. old sons third week of the using the patch which is also the only med. he has ever used. For him taking the pill was awful and after the first morning of trying to have him swallow it we switched to the patch. I can understand your sons feelings. We live in FL and after swimming I did notice the edges were lifting and also after sweating the moisture seemed to make the patch come off easily. If your son sits in the bath tub for a while it may loosen the patch and you may be able to remove it while he’s busy washing. We had problems removing the backing but placing it in the freezer did the trick. We increased the dosage from 10 to 20 mg. and now our problem is finding them. I hope this helps especially if the patch is working.

My son is 9 and just using the patch. He is terrified to put it on because it hurts him to take it off. The very beginning of this blog is on and on about how the patches will not stick, though we have the opposite effect. We can not get the patches off at the end of the day. Any suggestions? We have tried to put oils and lotions around the edges, but it does not work well at all.

For the redness that the patch causes you can use Nasocort (nosespray)on the area. It works great.

for Karen who wrote: My son is going to be 18 years old in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if the patch can be used at this age?

I havn’t had any experience hands on but I have talked with a few people that use it for their college age kids. It helps them focus and pay attention better to what is being taught. Give it a try, my son (11) has been on it for 4 months and we LOVE it! He has been on so many different kinds of medicine, but this one is amazing. He has lost a little (2 lb.) of weight but we are getting better about getting him to eat more frequently.

My son uses the daytrana patch we have tried so many diffrent medications with him the problem with all the medications is that one dose is to low and the next dose is to high. The daytrana patch works great theo only issue i have with it is that he gets red marks from where the patch is at. We even took him off of it because it was getting so bad but after trying other meds we found the daytrana works the best any one have any suggestions for helping the red spots they hurt him and sometime get so bad the they are like welps. I have an 8yr old son who is ADHD. We started medications like adderall and other pill forms of these medications about one and a half years ago with very dissatifying results. He soon became very sad, depressed and began having Tics. The tics started out mild, but soon be came overwhelming. He was nodding his head and shaking it uncontrolably to the point he couldn’t see very well and had neck pain. The doctor repeatly would state for us to weight our opptions. His grades are outstanding and he is making friends. But we decided to change him to the Daytrana patch and were delighted. It took some time for us to figure things out but we are very satisfied with the results as of 1 year later. We put the patch on about two hours before we need it to begin working. We make him eat within 45 mins of applying the patch, (one side effect is loss of appetite)and send him off to school. We have found that he needs to eat extra breakfast and then he can snack at lunch. He will eat a bowl of cereal of his choice while I make him scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles, or french toast ect. We found eating breakfast twice has helped his weight problem. I have him take the patch off after lunch, sometime between 1 N 2 PM and by the time he gets home from school, the medication is just wearing off. the irretability issues are far less bBt he will be very hungry!! We recomend parents to keep yogurts and some health snacks available until dinner is ready. He still has enough meds left in his system to get him through homework and his sleeping is less effected. We as the parents understand that being extra patient with him really works wonders along with compliments of good behavior. (This can be tough but well worth the extra effort) Sometimes he still has a hard time falling to sleep, so we try reading in quite, warm milk or tea with honey, or even a small dose of benadryl at times. As far as the backing problem, we too have had this frusterating issue! (Which is extra hard when we get up an hour or so early to apply it before he awakes.) We have been keeping the patches in the refridgerator and have had wonderfull results. I hope some of our ideas can help others trying this medication. It has been heaven sent for our family!!

My 9 year old son has been on Concerta, Ritalin, Focalin and Metadate - all of which were supposed to be extended release medications lasting at least 10 hours - none of those lasted that long, at most maybe 5 or 6 hours. He has now been on the Daytrana patch for almost 3 months and the change has been amazing. His focus in school has improved tremendously, his ability to focus on his homework after school and best of all his willingness to read has been the biggest shock. We did have a problem with removing the backing from the patch but found if we put the patches in the refridgerator it resolved the issue with removing the backing, now even my son is able to remove the backing with no problems and it doesnt seem to have affected the rate of distribution of the medication or the effectiveness of the patch in any way.

    Hope this helps….

My son (12years) has been on the patch for about 2 weeks. I can’t believe how much better he is doing in school - it’s amazing! I have agonized over his ADD for years. This patch is a blessing for us. I recieved e-mails for the 1st time from his teachers on how well his is doing - I just cried I was so happy.
Thank you to all that have posted! I have found some really useful information. It’s nice to know you aren’t alone! I have noticed that my son is irriatable and argumentive in the evening after we remove the patch and he is having trouble getting to sleep. I am going to try the melatonin and talk to his Dr. about the Resperdal.
I am having the same problem with removing the backing. I am worried now that he is not getting the full dose because most of it ends up on my fingers. I hope I haven’t broke the “membraine” and it is getting delivered to quickly. Well, it is obviously working, so I guess I shouldn’t worry too much.
I hope everyone finds something that works for them or their child.
