For Aisha 9/25/07 comment , my sone has been using the patch since 4/07 although we did break for summer, he also uses the risperal .5 only at nite to help him sleep , I also feel this helps prevent some of the aggression we were seeing w/other adhd meds, we have tried them all ritalin, rit la, focalin, adderall all doses and finally this patch which has been wonderful. Yes trouble w/ backing and skin irritation but as most comments agree , well worth the benefits!

My son, who has Down syndrome, (now 7) was diagnosed with ADHD last fall (2006). He started out on Methylin 5mg and advanced to Methlyin ER 10mg but showed signs of rebound on this.
In February we switched to Daytrana 10mg at the doctors recomendation we cut the patch in half with the belief he would only be getting 5 mg. I noticed that by the evening he was walking around a little to zombified for my taste. When I asked the doctor about it he admitted he made a mistake and told me wrong.
By cutting the patch you are messing with the delivery system and he is was still getting the 10mg (not the 5 I was hoping for) He described it like this…picture a syringe and a small needle, it takes a while to push all the medicine out using a small needle but, if you change the size of the needle to a larger one, the medicine goes in a lot quicker but, you are still getting the same amount of medicine. Same with cutting the patches.
This explained why when we switched to the patch we went from having troubles in the afternoon to having problems in the morning…it was taking to long for the medicine to get into his system. He did not reach a theraputic level until after lunch.
We are back to using the whole 10mg patch the doctor says he’s not over medicated but just quiet. I still am not thrilled with it but it he is doing well in school and I am happy with that.

My 14 yr old son was diagnosed at age 6 with ADD..he has been on adderall since then. We tried Stratera but the constant vomiting made us switch back to the Adderall XR We found that taking Melatonin (naturally produced in the brain when you go to sleep) tablets 30 minutes before bed time is a great way to combat the sleepless nights. We are concidering Daytrana for the mere fact of not having to swallow anymore pills…Any thoughts??

WE USE CREAM AT NIGHT TO TREAT THE RASH FROM THE PATCH.
WE APPLY RUBBING ALCOHOL TO THE AREA BEFORE APPLYING THE PATCH OTHERWISE CREAM FROM NIGHT BEFORE INTERFERES WITH MEDICINE GETTING THROUGH.
LESS FATTY AREA OF THE HIP IS BEST FOR FASTER RESULTS.
WE USE SUGICAL OR MEDICAL TAPE TO KEEP PATCH IN PLACE AND IT NEVER FALLS OFF EVEN IN THE POOL!
MUST APPLY 1.5 HOURS IN ADVANCE - JUST HAVE TO GET UP, IT’S WORTH IT!
REFRIDGERATE WHEN STICKY.
FOR 9 MONTHS I HAVE CUT 10MG IN HALF AND 15MG IN HALF FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD SO HE IS NOT SO ZOMBIE AND IT WORKS GREAT! I KNOW MANUFACTURE SAYS NO, SO MAKE SMALLER DOSE!
HATE THE PILLS, LOVE THE PATCH, STILL WISH WE GO WITH NO DRUGS - NOW TRYING FISH OIL AND RUNNING BLOOD TESTS FOR ALLERGIES TO GLUTEN? WILL SEE.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL

My son (8) was on Straterra for a year (50mg). It did not work as well on him as it does for our 9 year old. It constantly made him sick to his stomach. He would constantly be in the Nurses office by 9am or 10am, throw up, sleep until lunchtime, eat lunch and go back for afternoon classes but as if he had no meds at all.
We switched to the Daytrana patch (15mg) and no more upset stomach! However the dosage was not helping in school. We wanted to up the dosage but the other side effects were troubling. Paranoia and tics abounded. He could not go out and play like his normal happy-go-lucky self. He feared noises, people, cars…everything! He thought people were following us when we drove into our subdivision, etc. I really wanted the patch to work, but now we’re off it and still haven’t come up with an answer to help our son while allowing him to be a carefree child. -

I am 45 yrs old and I have been on Daytrana 20 mg for 60 days. I think it is a wonderful product. It has helped me maintain full concentration all day. I don’t experience the peeks and valleys like other ADD drugs. The only negative is the skin irritation I get from the patches. I have not found a way to relieve the itchy red areas. But the positive effects of Daytrana far out weigh the negative.

My 6 year old (primarily Hyperactive type of ADHD) just started the patch a few days ago (10 mg) and we are already seeing great results. He is much more tuned in an although active, not crazy out of control active like he was before. We are noticing a bit of trouble falling asleep though. So far, I am very happy with the results.

MY 8 YR. OLD SON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ADHA/ODD IN 2005. FOR 1.5 YEARS HE HAS BEEN UNSTABLE ON MEDICATIONS SINCE HE WOULD SKIP DOSES DUE TO HATING SWALLOWING AND TASTING MEDICATIONS. HE STARTED DAYTRANA IN THE SPRING. HE IS DOING VERY WELL ON THE 15MG PATCH. HE IS CALMER, YET HIS ACTIVE SELF. HE EATS MORE, THE PILLS WOULD KILL HIS APPETITE AND CAUSE STOMACH ACHES. NOW AND THEN HE MAY HAVE NERVOUS BEHAVIOR LIKE PICKING HIS FINGERS’ SKIN. HIS SKIN ON THE HIPS GETS IRRITATED SO, I PUT SKIN SO SOFT IN HIS BATH, APPLY COCOA BUTTER, AND BABY OIL (TO REMOVE THE GLUE).

I found that if I rub the patch between my fingers for a few seconds that I get the backing off with no problem. Rub all the way across each side of the patch. Hope this helps!

Hello. Is anyone’s child on Risperdal for ADHD symptoms? My child doesn’t seem to respond to .5Mg at night. It makes him sleep within an hour.
