Hi, just wanted to update everyone on Austin’s progress with the Daytrana. He is doing soooo good on these. He uses the 30 mg patch. It is just enough, but not too much. He is much more alert and a joy to be around now. He did have the sleep issues but his doctor suggested that we leave it on longer than the 9 hour suggested time and so far it is working. We take it off about 1 hour before bedtime and he is able to go to sleep now without any “extra” help. Good luck to all, for us this is working perfect.

Hi, my daughter has been on Daytrana for 3 mon. and I love it. We had the problems with the backing but when she was put on 15mg we no longer had the problems. She to has had the sleep issues, we now take melatonin, and weight loss which the Dr. says will even out in a year. Her new side effect is troubling me though. She has not started to pick at her ear. To the point she has a little scab inside and keeps picking it off. This has been going on for about a week. Do I rush out and call the Dr. or see if it passes? Has anyone elses child picked up a strange habit and how long does it last?

May I ask why my psychiatrist prescibed me this patch? I am an 18 year old college student. Im usually treated for depression and Ive been on all kinds of anti-depressants but now my doctor prescribed me Daytrana. From reading these blogs it really seems like this is a drug for young children who wont or cant take pills. The patch made me jumpy and restless and i couldnt sit still for a long period of time. I told my doctor I didnt have much energy and didnt really pay attention in class and he gave me the patches, does that make any sense? Im just looking for some feedback. Ive already made an appointment to see him very soon so it will be taken care of shortly. Just looking for what you guys think.

I gotta say that i absolutly love Daytrana, My son has done a total turn around and only had 3 very bad days or should i say hours it didn’t last very long. My son will actually sit down and watch a full movie now or play with just a couple of toys for hours on end and not get up at all except to use the bathroom. But now i’m having issues :( Since the recall of the patches every pharmicy in town has none in stock and we are out. In two weeks time my son has totally back slided to where he was befor the patch. He’s constantly hungery, sleeping for only a few hours. Running around and not standing still for more then a few seconds. He’s back to being angry and throwing stuff again. He’s started tormenting our cat and constantly back mouthing me and not listening to a word i say again. He’s back to not being able to concentrate and focusing.
I tried calling shire to see if i could find out when the new shipment was going to be sent here to Mountain Home Idaho again, But the lady that answered the phone got really rude when she found out i was not a docter, and then she tried to tell me there was no recall on the patches. and then very rudly hung up on me. Is there a number that us parents can call? the one i called was 1-800-828-2088.
can some one please help me out here?
Thanks

Hi Tracy,
Thank you for your help with our problem. I was giving him the Benadryl every other night b/c he was having such a hard time going to sleep. I will buy some of the Melatonin that you suggested next time that I am out. This behavior was very unusual for Austin. He has always been an early bird. He would be out in 5 min. of going to bed. I have talked with his doctor and he suggested that I leave the patch on longer than usual to see if he is having a bad let down when the med wears off. We have been doing that for 2 weeks and some nights it is not a problem then he will have 3-4 nights where he can not go to sleep. I really hope that the Melatonin helps! Thank you for your suggestion:) Michelle -

My son is 7 yrs. old, he’s been on adderall, methadate, and focalin, then he took focalin in the a.m. with a methadate around 2p.m.. When I started the Daytrana I tried 10 mg patches for about a month. The first 3 weeks were horrible, then I started 1 1/2 patches, now he’s up to two. My question to you is this, when I started the 2nd box, it seems it’s not working at all. He got a paddling today in school for disrupting the class. I’m at my wits end, has anyone else experienced any thing like this? Also, it makes a red rash on his hip and bottom. I ran out of places to put it without covering the rash so I put it on his back this morning. Maybe it has to be on the hip area to work?????

I have a question for all the parents. After removing the patch, does your child sometimes exhibit strange, “surly” type behavior? It hard to explain the behavior. He won’t talk, usually grunts or growls and is inconsolable. He is often triggered into tantrums over very small irritations. Some days we don’t experience this but on most days, he is like this for anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour. I wondered if it was some kind of withdrawal from the drug. Also, does anyone else have a child that is on Daytrana for bad behavior? Our son is not overly active. He mainly has extreme difficulty in controlling his bad behavior. He intimidates other kids by growling or punching close at them. He spits. He has difficulty obeying.
Also, thanks to those of you that offered the tip about putting the patch in the freezer for 15 to 20 seconds. It has been a pain to remove the backing and I used the same method someone else suggested about pulling the backing, back and forth to get the medicine to stick to just the patch side. That has worked but it can take up to 5 minutes with some of the patches. I would appreciate any comments about the “weird” behavior we sometimes see.

Hi, my daughters Dr. said to put the Daytrana patch in freezer for 20 seconds then immediately remove backing and apply to skin…..works every time, hope this helps!
