Has anyone found that the patch is less effective than pills? I’m an adult, using the patch for its stimulant effects in addition to antidepressants. The patch seems to work great for a day or two, and then completely lose effectiveness. My doc is going to switch me to Adderall XR to see if my body absorbs it better. Any other experiences to share?

We are trying the patch despite concurrent treatment for depression. My doctor had us use straight Ritalin for a couple of weeks so we could see what happened before switching delivery methods. The drug in the patch is the same as the drug in concerta- only the way it gets into the body is different.

My 15 yr old son has been on Daytrana for about 2 months. The first batch of 10 mg were very difficult to peel. The 15 mg, I have had no problem with at all.
I think that exposure to high heat is responsible for the adhesive problems people have been having. The F-ex van that transported the 10 mg patches to my pharmacy was VERY hot that day.
Also in order to keep the patches secure on the hip, my doctor gave me a script for a box of 100 6 cm x 7 cm Tagaderm HP Transparent Dressings.
These are clear sticky patches used in the hospital to tape down IV lines and surgical dressings. They adhere extremely well! My son can swim, bathe and sweat and the patch stays put. Only a couple of times has the Tagaderm started to loosen at the edges, but that was do to his clothes rubbing against it. Just be sure to place the patch BELOW the waste line of underpants to prevent this.
Be aware however, that the Tagaderm may increase skin irritation and residual adhesive.
Also, because Daytrana takes up to 2 hours or more for it to start working, my doctor has prescribed 10 mg of Focalin to be given at the same time as the application of the patch. This way, after a half hour or so, the Focalin has kicked in and by the time it wears off, the Daytrana is working.
We do not take weekends off either, because it seems that the upset stomach and irritability is due to withdrawal. He experiences none of this if given 7 days a week.
The Daytrana has been a God send! The slight irritation and residual adhesive is well worth it!
Sleep was an issue, but 3 to 6 mg of Melatonin or 25 to 50 mg of Benadryl works great. Although I don’t recommend the Benadryl every night, it is good for those nights when the Melatonin doesn’t seem to be quite enough.
My only concern is that some days it seems as if it isn’t working for him. I am hoping this just means he needs to increase to the 20 mg.
Has anyone else had this experience and did an increase solve the problem? -

I have twin 10 1/2 year old boys with ADHD that take 30 mg of Daytrana. The backing stuck on them at first until I moved the location in which I keep them stored. I think keeping them in a cooler place keeps the backing from sticking. We have been using this medication for about 3 or 4 months. I really like it, except that one of my boys is starting his behavior issues again. Seems like all medications only work for a little while with him.

Does anyone know whether the patch can be used on the leg instead of the hip? I am having some difficulty placing the patch on my hip.

My son has been wearing the Daytrana patch for 1 year now and it works fine for him. I have found that when taking the patch off it leaves adhesive on his skin. Baby oil works O.K. but Avon’s Skin So Soft bath oil works better. I also have had problems with taking off the backing but I believe it is getting better.

I am an adult, closing in on 60 years old. and take 30 mgs. of Adderall XR and 10-20 mgs. Adderall a day. I have fibromyalgia and ADD-H. I found that Adderall gives me the energy I lack as well as addresses my ADHD, but I can overfocus on it and would like to know if others would share their experiences in switching from Adderall to Daytrana.

Does anyone have any experience using Daytrana in adults? My doctor prescribed it for me not for ADD but as a stimulant in conjunction with an antidepressant to treat depression and tiredness. Any comments would be most welcome.

Hi! I have two sons who are both treated for ADHD and I am as well. My oldest is 13 and takes concerta and prozac (for depression). My 10 year old takes Adderall and saw the ad for the patch at the doctor’s office. The doctor and I are hesitant to try it because of the warnings about side effects including “psychotic events” and “severe depression”.
Have any of you had experience with the combination of ADHD and depression running on the family and tried the patch anyway?
Thanks for the help!
