172My daughter whom is 8 has been using the patch for three months now. It has been amazing…she came home from school the other day and told me she could finally hear the teacher and not everyone else. She was constantly teased by kids for singing in class as she was compltely unaware that she was singing. This has stopped and she now has the ability to see when it’s ok to sing and when it’s not. She is so much happier.
We too had the trouble with skin irration and tried cortizone, other lotions and found that baby oil or mineral oil not only take the tape off but also sooth the skin. By morning, the redness is all gone. -

173Hi Everyone – My 7 year old son has been on the patch for about a month now. Although we can see some slight improvements in attention and especially his handwriting, the mood swings are terrible. You can’t look at him side ways. After a week of this I contacted his doctor who advised this should start to lessen over time. Just wondering if anyone can attest to that? I am having a really hard time watching an otherwise very bubbly happy giggly little boy sit on the floor crying literally over spilled milk! Maybe this isn’t the right med for him?

174My son has been on the patch for one month and I am seeing a variety of side effects. First of all he is 6 and skinny. He has never had much interest in food ever. This was my main concern,of course. But that part has worked out well so far, good breakfast, a little something in the afternoon and a good dinner and snack. He has always been pretty hyper, talks loudly and non-stop. Some days he drives me crazy but he always makes me laugh with his witty comments. When we started the patch he came home from school and happily announced that he did not get his card turned. But we noticed that he seemed down, kind of sad and quiet. He always wants me to hold him or play something with him sometimes if I am not here he will cry. But some days he is ok, doesn’t cry but definately not himself either, still quiet and sad. I Have asked him many times how he feels. He says he is not sad and he doesn’t want to go off the patch. Last week he started getting very irritable later in the day after the patch was removed. Has anyone experienced this? Also the skin irratation has gotten much worse. We have been trying different things. His focus and attention has improved. His teacher has noticed a difference in behavior and attention but she still has to say his name several times. I would appreciate any comments or advice. thanks, Chrissy

174.1We tried everything for his skin and finally tried cortizone OINTMENT not the cream. It cleared up fast and has never come back. For a while his skin looked like chopped meat!

174.2I put a bit of vaseline on the area after bath time each night. This seems to make it not irritated.

174.3Today is the first day my son has ever taken Daytrana and the last. My 10 year old son has been so moody. He can’t sleep at all and it is midnight. I found him under his large desk in his room curled up. He has been so sad, moody, hard to talk to since he has been home today. I had to call Rediscover were he went yesterday and ask them what I should do. They told me they will call me back first thing in the morning. I am real upset to go through another medicine. Strattera is what he has been on the last monthI it has been great except for that he started plucking his hair out in a quarter size ontop of head. I wish we could just get some sleep here. I do not recomended this medicine to anyone.

175Hi Chrissy my son is now seven and he has been on the patch for 15 months. I have to say it is a daily battle for me. My son also experiences the same side effects: loss of appetite, irritability, moodiness, despondent especially when the patch is removed. So I give him a good breakfast, sanck for his school lunch and a nice size dinner. He is very sensitive and emtional at times….and if he has to flip his card at school he instantly cries. Many teachers are not use to dealing with children that have ADHD…therefore I find it extremely imperative that we educate them and give them the necessary data about it…especially the side effects…so they can no what to expect. I have also had the talks with my son and he tells me that the patch does help him calm down and focus….he also says he is able to control his impulsivity. I am a School Social Worker and I work with students who take medication for ADHD and it just touches my heart because they also experience the same side effects. It’s a challenge everyday and I keep telling myself the benefits outway the cons. I remain optimistic and hope he will eventually be able to control himself as he gets older…I’m afraid if any long term damage. It appears that these types of medications have similar side effects. Kind Regards, Rena

176My son has been takeing Daytrana for quite some time now, we weathered the whole adhesive issue and have enjoyed the product both before the sticky patch issue and since it was resolved however when I got his refill this month it seems like some patch’s work like normal some like there is no medicine on them? has anyone else experianced this? it seems odd January’s refill was just fine no problems at all, his grades are dropping and everyone is about ready to club him on days its not working, I feel so bad for him, he is putting them on as usual but some of them just are not working??

177My 10 year old son just started the patch today.. He use to be on adderall xr a year ago and the side effects were so bad that I took him off of it and was scared to try anything else. We recently had a meeting with his teacher and counselor and came to the decision to try something else. His grades and ability to control himself have just gotten so bad we needed to do something or he was going to fail in life. he came home from school today, very happy, but literally acting like he was speeding. He said he was writing so fast at school that it was very sloppy and that he couldnt stop grinding his teeth. But felt good about his school work. Is this behavior normal and will it subside once he is use to it?

178i have tried 3 different medications before using daytrana, and the experience for all has been heartbreaking. one med made him weepy, another made him angry, and so on,,, daytrana has fine tuned my son, not changed him. he does have difficulty falling asleep and i have verified that 1 mg of melatonin is safe to give him. so sleep is no longer a problem. a month is too long of an adjustment period. within a week you(usually less) you should know if the meds dont agree with your child~ good luck

179This is just the 2nd day that my 9 yr. old son has been on Daytrana. I have to say after reading some comments I am a bid concerned about him on this. He came home so quiet today. I am concerned because even though he could get over zealous, I miss his bubbly mood. Since I am new at this, I am also concerned about dependency on a drug as the info. on the prescription states.

180I am having a hard time keeping the patch on my sons hip. it has come off twice already and we’re only on the 2nd day of treatment! Can i put the patch on any other part of his body? I know Shire says only the hip, but has anyone else tried any other part of the body? I was thinking on his back where he can’t reach it.

180.1I put my daughter’s on her rear end- the middle. It stays better, and doesn’t come off when she pulls her clothes on and off.

180.2Try cleaning the area with an alcohol pad before. My son wears the patches and sometimes they don’t stick. I started cleaning the area with an alcohol pad and now we don’t have that problem.
