Backing sticks!
I finally got hold of box of 15 mg patches that work without problems - no need to use the “wave”, freezer, or pull it of rapidly! The patches that worked have an expiration date of 5-2009. My earlier 10mg patches that worked expired on 4-2009.
The patches that failed all had earlier expiration dates.
I also noticed a visible difference in the new 15 mg patch once it was attached to my daughter. The new patch was uniformly translucent. Using one of the older patches where I’d managed to get off the covers with about 90% of the medication still on the patch, the patch appeared cloudy with no uniform pattern.
I worry that the matrix of medication on the old patches was being disrupted by the machinations needed to get the backing off! I suggest that if you can’t easily get the backing off your patches, you should go back to the pharmacy and insist on ones that work. -

I haven’t heard this comment yet…We tried the 10mg patch for our 5 yr old son 2 days in row, and he was absolutly CRAZY hyper! Some kind of adverse reaction, even though the medicine should be the same as in the tablets… We’re dissapointed that he won’t be able to use them now that he’s starting kindergarten. We put him back on the 10mg tablets every four hours.

I’d like to get a better estimate of the backing problem (Shire claims it’s only a “few”). We started with the 10mg patch (expires 4-2009) and they worked very well - no backing problems.
We switched to the 15mg, and went through 3 different boxes (thanks to a helpful pharmacist)with expiration dates 4-2008, 5-2008, and 3-2009 - all had serious backing problems, although the newer ones seemed slightly less of a problem.
We’re in Eastern Massachusetts - it would be helpful in influencing Shire if people could respond with their backing experience and indicate their geographic region (Shire claims they have several distributers.
Thanks! -

Forgot to mention that 10mg had 0 effect on my son, went 2 days later to 20mg (2 patches) then 3 days later to 30mg with wonderful results : )

Hello,
My son is 7 and has been using the patch for 2 months with REMARKABLE success. He took Adderall XR 25mg for 2.5 years and the neurologist wanted to add SSRI meds to decrease irratibility, fixatations and improve mood. I asked to switch to the patch as I thought these symptoms were actually side effeccts of the adderall (not present or much reduced when off the adderall.) Anyways, practically overnight, my son is now the pleasant, delightful, joy-to-be with guy I always knew he could be. Started the last week of school and EVERYONE on his IEP team complimented the enormous change and said how much they are looking to 2nd grade in the fall. The first box was 10mg with a 2008 expire date, we had horrible peel-off problems just like listed by everyone else, called Shire and got the 40 free patches. My husband was furious and wanted to switch back. I saw on another site a parent posted that the 2009 expire dates are the new ones with the problem “fixed” - since then have had the pharmacist look at the dates before filling at the pharmacy.
Now the problem is almost entirely fixed, still a bit too sticky on a few, but I use tweezers to remove an have no real issues. I also set an alarm 2 hrs before we need to get up, sneak in and stick it on my sleeping guy, then head back to bed until a normal time to wake. He gets up and ready in the morning with no argueing, etc. It is great and well worth the 5 minutes.
The best thing of all is that my son wants to wear the patch everyday, says it makes him feel so much better!!!!! Success : ) If you are having issues, I recommend trying these ideas and sticking with it, the difference it has made for my son has been wonderful. Thank you, Shire!

First I would like to say I am working for a company that is expanding and studying to take my real estate exam. I am ADD and have been going though life with out any medication my. Today I put on a Daytrana 10mg and studied all day long…it was fantastic!!! I have never been able to read something once and retain it! I am getting a prescription ASAP. My son is 10 and he is on Concerta…he has only gained two or three pounds a year and gets made fun of constanly for being so small. I am making an appointment and switching him so he can start gaining weight…it is so upseting to see him get his little felling hurt!

I was glad to find this comment board- my son, 14y is wanting to try the patch- we just saw it advertised and we have a Doc appointment in the morning! He has been on Adderall XR 25mg for about 5yrs. We did home school through Ohio Virtual Accademy which uses the same K12 programs as public schools and as hesitant as my husband and I were to agree to the home school it has a been a huge PLUS! We just got his OGT test scores last week and he is advanced to acceralting in everything except math- which he is testing high Basic. I would reccommend anyone who could with children with learning struggles to check out homeschooling
I’m so happy to see so much GREAT FEEDBACK for the patch!! We have 3 boys 20y, 17y - he is Depressive BiPolar and 14y ADHD!

My daughter is 8 she was diagnosed with ADHD whe she was 5. She was on Focalin XR which was working great. However, she hadn’t grown or gained weight in over a year. She was in the 10th percentile for ht and wt. She is 49 in and was 47 lbs. She is up to I am happy to say 56 lbs after just one month of daytrana. She is currently on the 20 mg patch. I am hoping that at her next appt July 26th she will have grown a little and maybe a gained a little more weight. Whoo Hoo Grace, and thank goodness for daytrana. They were going to stop treating her with stimulants. She is so far behind in school as it is, I can’t even imagine what this would have done to her.

So far I am loving the patch. I did have problems removing the backing from the 10 mg patch. The 15 mg and 20 mg were much easier.

Hello Everyone
First I wanted to see if everyone switched to this new page and second I was wondering if anyone encountered that during the summer they were able to go down in the dosage for their child. My son has been been so super mellow at day camp he is not wanting to participate in the daily activities.
