Dr Carver Joins Site as Consulting Clinical Psychologist
We’d like to extend a very warm welcome to Dr Joseph M Carver, who joins us as the site’s Consulting Clinical Psychologist and author of his own regular feature. Many readers will know Dr Carver from his popular articles on relationships, as well as from his frequent contributions in the blog section of the site. Now we’ve decided the time has come for Dr Carver to have a section of his own, a dedicated section where you can…Ask the Psychologist!
You may have read his widely acclaimed articles on Loving an Abuser or on Dating a Loser, or perhaps you’ve followed some of his replies in the blog discussion threads dedicated to those two articles. Maybe you’ve even heard him on the radio or seen him mentioned in newspapers like The New York Times. And now, you’ll be seeing even more of him on CounsellingResource.com. (More on that in a moment…)
Dr Carver hails from southern Ohio, USA, where he is in private practice as well as employed as the Psychology & Mental Health Services Supervisor overseeing mental health services at the Ohio River Valley Juvenile Correctional Facility, a maximum security 330-bed facility. He also provides expert witness testimony for a US government agency and has taught both undergraduates and graduate students at Ohio University. His career as a psychologist, spanning over three decades, has included work in psychiatric and medical hospitals, community mental health centers, and private practice.
His current activities include individual therapy, employee assistance services, psychological evaluation, and professional consultation. He works with children and adults and specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, emotional trauma, and relationship issues.

Please share your opinion on contact between the crime/abuse victims and perpetrators for purpose of closure/healing.

Just to help streamline things for Dr Carver, I wonder whether you’d be happy to re-submit your comment as a question for Dr Carver’s new section? (Although he does a great job of keeping up with the individual threads on the Loser article and the Stockholm Syndrome article, we don’t ask him to keep up with all of the individual threads here on the main blog.)
