it is so scary reading all of your comments. my son is 7 and has been adhd since 5! we tried meds at 5 but the “rebound” was worse than the symptoms we were treating. we recently tried concerta but the first part of the time release reved him up so that it was a bit scary!
the patch 10mg, after 3days seems to be fine. he seems to be more aware of himself and his suroundings. i have been told that all of thesae meds eventaully become tolerated by there systems and stop working! scary! has any onestayed on the same mgs for at least a month!
by the way your child needs a psychiatrist, not a nuerologist.

I am now doing the research on the patch. My wife who is the main care giver needs all the help she can get. I am so worried that we will be doing something wrong if we go to the patch. Can we switch back if we do not like it and i saw where maybe she should take both the adderall and the patch. Help me get thur this.

my husband and i hemmed and hawed for a long time about the right meds, or meds at all! as an adult i know how meds can make you feel and you jjust have to grin and bear it until the chemical works its way through your system. finally – there was just no harmony w/in our household,, my young daughter was picked up on inappropriate behavior from her hyper and impulsive brother and i couldnt handle the 2 of them! try the patch!,,, its effects are out of their systems not to far after you take it off!
    good luck.

My son has had many problems since being on Daytrana. I beleive that it may trigger some increased bad behaviors, almost like making him dilusional. He is in a fantasy world and will not focus making sounds and acting like an animal. No matter how much discipline is given he will not stop. Was curious if anyone has experienced the same.

My 12 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 8 years old. He has always tended to exhibit impulse controls problems more than anything. He was always getting in trouble in school and I was always getting phone calls. His impulse control problems were so bad that they interfere wit his learning. He is very intelligent, but the behaviors defeated the eduacational progress. In the past he was on Metadate, Adderrall and Concerta. The side effects from these medicines impacted his weight and mood so severly to the point that I took him off medicine completely for almost 2 years.During that time, he gained 30 pounds and actually looked healthy vs. thin and frail. 10 days ago, I had to put him back on medicine because his grades were suffering terribly. Daytrana came highly reccommended from a co-worker, so I asked his doctor if he could be placed on it. I am pleased to say that’s it’s working wonders. His teachers have advised me that he is doing extremly well, but the afternoons are best of all(to the point they don’t even know he’s there). I know we all have reservations about nedicines for our children, but Daytrana is worth trying!

I’ts amazing to read realize so many of us parents are dealing with many of the same problems. My daughter is 9 yrs old and is on the patch because she refuses to take pills. So far this patch has done wonders for her and i highly recomend it. I alse put lotion on her sides at night, this helps with the skin getting dry and itchy. I have noticed some nervous tics but overall this patch has helped alot with her focus and self control. Good luck to all.

My son is currently taking 30mg of Adderall XR, which only lasts about 4 hours. If he started using the Daytrana Patch, would he use the 27mg Patch? Do you know if, because it is a patch, the length of release time will be about 9 hours, or can the body “use” it faster? Thanks

La Shauna – has it really helped the impulsivity? I found that the Adderall XR didn’t so much. To the

My 13 yr old son started daytrana 15 mg today. The problem is that I had a VERY hard time peeling the protective backing. In fact I had to throw one away because I think I damaged it. We finally got one on, but it was not easy. Is there a trick? Do I have patches that are defective somehow, or is this what I can expect? It wasn’t a great way to start our day.
