41Elizabeth-
My daughter is 6 1/2 and the doctor is having her on 10mg for one week, then increasing her to 20mg. (She’ll back her down to 15mg if 20mg ends up too much). She is also 50lbs, so if he needs that dose, it probably isn’t a problem.I’m having a problem finding a pharmacy in my area who carries it! I brought my script and free 40 patches card (which, for those of you asking, the psychiatrist gave us when she gave us the script) in to the pharmacy when I had a week left of her Concerta- I figured that would be enough time for them to get it in- NO! Here we are today, on her LAST DOSE of Concerta, and I STILL don’t have her Daytrana script filled, because I’m being told 8+ days to get it shipped in to the pharmacy! (Ok, originally they said 5 days, so I called on the 5th day, and that’s when they told me 8+ days…) I don’t know what I’m going to do for her! The pharmacy told me they had 20 patches, so the phychiatrist sent me a script for 20, and then when I tried to bring that in, the 2 pharmacies who told me they had 20 said:
“Oops! We don’t have it in the correct dose!”
“Oh, we only had 10 of them, sorry!”
Can someone give me a suggestion who might have it? I’ve tried Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and Osco so far… -

My 8 year old daughter started Daytrana 10mg 1 week ago. I too find it difficult to remove the backing…many times the adhesive partially sticks to the backing. I’ve found that if I remove the backing from opposite sides (top of one corner and bottom of the other) it works better. We live in Florida so I’m not sure if the temperature of the patch is effecting the adhesive. My daughter has also had problems with the patch falling off while swimming. As Karen suggested Nexcare makes a waterproof transparent dressing called Tegaderm. Since we swim almost daily this has worked great BUT when you remove the Tegaderm the patch comes off with it!! So I just leave it on until it is time to remove the patch.
My daughter has also had stomache pains and nausea. One night it was so severe that we were up most of the night and I debated bringing her to the ER…I was afaid it might be her appendix. Each night since, she has had pain but it seems to be decreasing as her body adjusts to the medication.
Overall the medication seems to be working well…I know I am much calmer and She scored a 94% on her first test taken while on the medication!!! Hurry!! Decreased appetite has been a problem but…postive so far outweigh the negative.
Good luck to all!!!

45Today was the third day for my daughter to be on the patch (Walgreens FINALLY got it in!) and I found a way to get the backing off without the patch coming with it (this morning- after wasting 2 patches the first AM and 1 the second)!!
First, I bent the patch a few times along the line between the two sides of the backing, so that the middle seam of the backing was bending up. After I did that, the sides of the backing started coming off on their own! So I peeled one off and placed it on her, then peeled the other off and flattened it!

46My 9 year old has been on the Daytrana 30mg patch for a week. We are having great success with it so far. In the morning he gets 5mg of Ritalin, because the 3mg isn’t enough to get him going. I thank you for the peeling tips; I was having trouble with that. We had a tough time from 5:30 to bedtime on the Ritalin LA. He was an emotional mess. We fought from the time he came home till he finally went to sleep @ midnight. Now we don’t have the ups and downs. It is even keel all day and night. I highly recommend the patch. He woke up this morning and his stomach hurt. How long does it take for those side effects to come around? I am not sure if he just wanted to stay in the bed. I will offer a hint about bedtime. Take patch off at least 3 to 4 hours prior to bedtime. His Neurologist also has him taking Melatonin at night to help with the restlessness. This is the natural chemical that our bodies produce to sleep. It helps a lot.

47My daughter is 14. She has been on most of the meds in your last discussions since Jan ’06. She is now going to try the Daytrana Patch.
My complaint about all the past meds is the “waring off” effect it has on her. She becomes a different person…
gittery
agitated
angry
anxious
will there ever be medicine developed that doesn’t have such severe sight effects?Linda

48I just wasted 3 patches because the medicine is staying on the part to be discarded and not the patch. All 3 patches have nothing or next to nothing on them and are not even sticky. Has anyone had this problem? Is it a defect? This is my second month using the patch and this has never happened before. The 10mg was slit down straight and was easy. The 15 mg that was just started today (if I could ever get it to work) is cut diagonal. I wonder if the LOT is bad? I wonder if walgreens improperly stored it? I have no idea and would appreciate any suggestions on what to do. Walgreens takes WELL OVER a WEEK to get the product in to begin with and I don’t even know how to go about getting this replaced.

49My 11 yr-old daughter has been on the Daytrana patch (30 mg) since a week after it came out. (She had been on 54+18=72mg! of Concerta & 36 mg of Strattera–weighing 60 lbs!–before.) The patch has been great–some of her organizational problems persist but the behavioral problems (at least the ones at school) are almost gone. Her temperament is more “even” despite impending adolescence.
We also live in Florida & have problems w/the patch falling off sometimes when swimming or when she sweats a lot (I’m not sure how much part she has in it “falling off” sometimes…) so I will definitely check out the Tegaderm, although if anybody has found any less expensive alternatives, I would be very interested. When it falls off, I can always tell from her behavior about 1-2 hours later. Something I came up with on my own on the second day (after wasting a patch) is to swab the area w/rubbing alcohol & letting it dry prior to putting on the patch. Doctor says that this can increase irritation, but after some problems about a month after starting, this problem has decreased (I’m just careful to not overlap patch placements day-to-day.) I also spend a bit of time bending the backing (the 30 mg patches do not appear to be as completely scored as the 10s and 20s and are harder to separate from the backing) & make sure that 1/4 inch of each side of the patch is free from the backing before I attempt to put it on. I also have problems with the patches getting “gummy” & wonder about the effects of Florida temperature & humidity, as the problem appears to get worse over the course of the month. The company recommends storing at 77 degrees (F; 25C) & I keep my house at 79-80 degrees.
Oh, my local Albertons in St. Petersburg, FL takes 4-5 days to get the patches in (my daughter’s psychiatrist writes the prescription early & the pharmacy accepts it before the refill is due–they can’t process it w/my insurance company until they get it in anyway). -

50My son started a couple of weeks ago on the 10mg with the free samples. It did not seem to be strong enough so we switched to 15mg sample box and he is doing great. He gets very tired 3 hours after taking the patch off so we have him take it off around 5:30pm. He goes to bed and falls right to sleep. He is diagnosed with ADD, no hyperactivity in him. Anyway, he seems more attentive and lasts longer than the focalin. He said the Focalin was wearing off in the afternoon, during his science class. I thought for sure it was the teacher, she is kind of drab. I tried peeling the backing by using the diagonal slit pointy side but it was taking forever. My son showed me a trick to bend the patch along the slit, keeping it folded and then “roll” the patch up and down between his fingers. This “walks” the backing off the sticky stuff and then it can be pulled off. I thought it was ingenious. Any idea on the price, Is $160 still a good number?
