My son was prescribed Daytrana 10mg about a week ago. Is anyone else having any trouble getting the protective backing off? It’s very hard for us to peel it off and it stretches the patch when we do. I am wondering if maybe it got too warm in the car or something. My doctor also gave us the card for 40 free patches. There has not been a decrease in my son’s appetite. So far so good.

Alexandra,
I am not sure if the trouble with swimming was due to my sons suit or the fact that it irritated him and he picked at it. As of today, we switched back to oral medicine. He too complained of stomach aches (doubled over at times) and itching. He is old enough (11) to know not to remove the patch but he did frequently. He ended up on the largest dose because the 15 and 20 didn’t seem to help him stay focused (lots of repeating of directions, impulsivity..) We also had to keep the patch on longer than suggested due to the fact that he had no carry over into the night. I held hope that this would be our answer. Good luck.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I’m 24 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, which is not surprising. I have spent the past week researching different treatment and medication options that are currently available. I really liked the idea of Daytrana until I read all the literature and found out that it has only been tested/prescribed for children under the age of 13. Why is this? Would it be unsafe for adults to take Daytrana? Are there (and/or will there be) adult clinical trials?
Any information regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time, and I hope to talk soon.

Two things: First, I notice that most of the people posting about waterproof problems have boys. My daughter had a problem with it coming off, but once we made sure it was firmly under her bathing suit, it was okay since the lycra bathing suit sort of pushed it into place. Perhaps since boys’ bathing suits are looser, it is more of a problem. Maybe if the boy wore a tighter bathing suit (Speedo type) under the trunks, that would help.
Are people finding that the dosage is similar for the patch. My daughter was on 20 mg Focalin, which seemed like slightly more than she needed (She was okay on 15 mg as far as doing school work, but she had some problems in late afternoon, so the doctor recommended increasing to 20). She was on 15 of the Daytrana, and this didn’t seem like enough. we increased her to 20, but she still seems fuzzier than on the 20 mg of Focalin, and she is having stomach aches. The doctor said she would probably need a *lower* dose of this because the meds go more efficiently into the bloodstream, but that’s not what I’m finding so far. She says she feels okay on this dose, but it is summer and no school work, and I find that I am repeating the same things over and over again, like when she wasn’t on meds.

Karen,
Thank you for the waterproof tip! I hope my son can gain a little weight too — at least he isn’t losing more.

Beth and Anna,I have found a waterproof transparent dressing that works very well for swimming. The product name is Nexcare. I purchase it at my local pharmacy.
My 11 yr old son has been using Daytrana 10 mg for 1 1/2 mths. He did great the first month. Attention is still good but the attitude has gone down hill. His appetite has increased so much that he has gained 12 pounds during this time. Before, he was to skinny. He is by no means heavy now but that is a lot to gain in 1 1/2 mths.

Stacie, How did you get a card for 40 free patches? Did you get if from your doctor? I sure would like to get one too.
