PLEASE inform me when the patch for ADHD is available for purchase. MY grandson is on Focalin now. He is 9 1/2. He cannot swollow a pill. He gags and vomits. The Focalin is not working now. A visit with Kennedy Kreiger is coming with Dr. Ewen. I am praying the patch will help him. He gets counseling weekly but has been having a lot of difficult again focusing. A new IEP was written and the school is helping. Please let me know when the patch is available.

    Sincerely,
    Trudi Romecki

    Hi Trudi,

Although we can’t promise to catch each new drug release, we do like to mention interesting new releases like this when we hear about them. However, it’s more than likely that your grandson’s physician will receive word about the medication directly from the manufacturer if and when it does become available for sale — so you should be safe either way.

All the best to your grandson and to your family as you manage this difficult time,
    Greg

    Hi Eva,

I wouldn’t like to speculate about the timeline for when Daytrana might become available, but I notice that both Shire and Noven mention the Daytrana patch in their R&D pipelines (and Shire mentions some other ADHD products as well). See their research information at:

    http://www.shire.com/shire/Pipeline/projects.jsp

    and

    http://www.noven.com/research.htm

    All the best,
    Greg

My 9 yr old son parcipated in the research study of the ADHD patch for 6 weeks at OSU medical Center… He loves it. He is currently taking Ritalin 30mg LA…… the patch is better for his appetite, it lasts longer in the evening, and when He comes off the medication, you can hardly tell….I am very excited for when the patch comes out. I was told that it is to be released around the end of February 06 beginning of March 06. At this point the pharmacies are unaware of when it is coming…But I was told that about a week before it comes out, we will see tons of commercials for it on TV.

My son is 10 and is currently on Focaline. He participated in a study at OSU and were told the patch would be available in early March. Any news yet?

Thanks to Betsy and Pamela for their input — nothing beats good, old fashioned, direct experience with the medication during the Daytrana trial.

It sounds like both of you were told you could expect roughly the same time frame, so hopefully any day now there will be some news (and, as Betsy says, probably a bundle of advertising targeted directly at consumers).

    All the best,
    Greg

My son is going to the doctor today for his check up and he is on concerta. it works really well but he wont eat and he has a real bad mood swing when it is wearing off each day and the mornings are bad because he cant swollow it. I am going to ask my doctor today about the patch. I cant wait for it to come out.

Joyce, we wish you and the son the best with this. From what others have mentioned here, it sounds like availability may be imminent.

We’d be glad to hear how it works out!

    All the best,
    Greg
