Tsunami Support Coordination Continues More Slowly Due to Illness
Our efforts to gather details of mental health professionals willing to donate time in support of those affected by the southern Asian tsunami continue undiminished, but liaisons with aid agencies are occurring more slowly due to the managing editor’s absence.
Less than a week after launching our international effort (“International Effort to Offer Volunteer Counselling or Therapy Support to Those Affected by Tsunami”) to gather details from mental health volunteers, I unfortunately came down with mumps. While the database is still growing actively every day as new volunteers enter their details, my efforts to liaise with international aid agencies have been hampered.
We continue to receive a large number of queries about the coordination effort, and I spend some time every day responding to these queries. You can help the effort by writing to us only if you consider your query to be of very high priority; if it is of lower priority — i.e., if it is not sufficiently urgent that it requires a response while I am ill with mumps — then I would ask you please to consider delaying your communication until I have returned to the office. Availability details are provided on a page linked from the site’s main Contact page.
Thank you for your patience!
