Strong Response to Call for Tsunami Mental Health Support

avatar image

Within less than one week of launching our effort to gather details of mental health professionals willing to provide support for those affected by the tsunami in southern Asia, we have been contacted by counsellors, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and others in 10 countries volunteering a total of well over 2000 hours of time.

Our efforts to coordinate an international mental health resource for the benefit of those affected by the southern Asia tsunami have gained momentum rapidly, with mental health professionals from all over the world offering their support. We are in touch with several aid agencies and are working hard to connect those in need with those able to help.

Please see our original entry “International Effort to Offer Volunteer Counselling or Therapy Support to Those Affected by Tsunami” for more details. Qualified counsellors, therapists and other mental health professionals can also submit details here.

Additional aid agencies which may be able to draw on those who have provided their details, please visit our Contact page to get in touch.

In response to 911 I wrote an article called COPING with FEAR. It is applicable to the present asian disaster. It is reprinted on my blog with a suggestion as to spreading this information and other psychological interventions via radio. If you are interested please look at gibbsonline.typepad.com/
