International Effort to Offer Volunteer Counselling or Therapy Support to Those Affected by Tsunami

CounsellingResource.com is coordinating an international effort to collect details of professionals willing to volunteer free mental health support to those affected by the southern Asia tsunami, including those living in affected countries, those who have lost loved ones in the natural disaster, and aid workers bringing assistance to affected countries.

International Coordination Effort

We are now building a database of qualified therapists and counsellors who would be willing to donate time in support of:

  • People in countries directly affected by the tsunami,
  • People in any country who have lost loved-ones as a result of the tsunami, and
  • People working in relief agencies which are aiding the countries affected by the tsunami.

Volunteers will include qualified professionals willing to provide support by telephone and/or by email, as well as those able to travel to provide in-person support in affected countries. Our database will be made available to relevant international aid and support agencies which may be able to put volunteered time to best use.

If you are a qualified therapist or counsellor willing to donate time to those affected by the tsunami, please submit your details.

How Else You Can Help

If you are aware of other therapists or counsellors who may also be willing to donate time, please refer them to this site.

In addition, the Google front page includes a link to a list of organizations now accepting donations to support their relief work, as does the USAID site. CNN also provides a list of aid groups accepting donations. In the UK, the Disasters Emergency Committeeacts as an umbrella group collecting donations for several different aid organizations.

Supporting This Site

The time and resources to support this coordination effort are being donated by the Managing Editor and owner of this site (the Managing Editor’s company, Mulhauser Consulting, Ltd.), until such time as it becomes feasible to hand over the database and coordination activities to a relevant registered charity working in the area. NO DONATIONS ARE SOLICITED BY THIS SITE. If you would especially like to support our work in this area, please get in touch via our Contact Details page.
