Sarah’s Background, Experience and Range of Clients

Hi… My name is Sarah Hayes and I am an experienced, BACP accredited counsellor who has been working for nearly eight years with young people, individual adult clients and couples. I have worked in mental health for over ten years both privately and for the NHS.

I have been a qualified counsellor since 2001 and have worked extensively with young people since the autumn of 1999. I worked for Poole Youth Service at The Quay Advice Centre as a volunteer counsellor for two years and I also worked for The Children’s Society project, The Junction in Bournemouth for four years. The age range of the clients was 12 to 25 years. I have worked with adults and couples since 2002. Some of my work has been with gay and lesbian people. I co-managed a counselling service for this client group called Over The Rainbow in Bournemouth.

I have had my own private business since 2005 in south Manchester. I currently work with both adults and young people. I am now working online as well as face to face. The issues I work with include abuse, self-harm, eating problems, self-esteem, sexuality, domestic violence, relationship difficulties, bullying, bereavement, anxiety, anger and workplace stress.

Practice Philosophy

My core model is Psychosynthesis, one of the transpersonal therapies. I work in an eclectic way using different therapeutic techniques from various theories, including Gestalt, REBT and Psychodynamic theory. I see clients as the “whole” person, and work holistically to include the mind, body and spirit. I use the most appropriate skill to fit my clients’ needs. Long and short-term therapy is available.

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Bournemouth University and an Edexcel HND in Therapeutic Counselling. I hold professional indemnity insurance and work within BACP’s ethical framework. I have also been police checked.
